Fri 20, 08:30 AM    southwest israel
I got to go to the Gush Qatif settlement in Gaza with the Jewish Student center. There were 26 mortars fired at the settlement the day before and 5 the morning of. We had a bullet-proof bus. How exciting! We toured the settlement, met some farmers, and went to the beach. Hands down one of the nicest beaches i've ever been to... and it was empty (surprise, surprise). Went swimming... collected shells... returned to Jerusalem.

Chris and I fly out on Monday to Rome! Woot! We're spending a 2 or 3 days in Rome (checking out the colluseum, and the Vatican ), taking a train to Florence where we will spend 2 or 3 more days. From there we are training it up and over to Ivera, a little town north of Torrino where we will be just in time for the annual festival where they have the famous "battle of the oranges" (a glorious tradition of throwing oranges at each other). Then we're going to cross the boarder into Switzerland where we will hopefully spend two days up in the mountains at L'Abri (a Christian retreat center of sorts that Francis Schaffer started). Then we're traveling up through Interlaken into the Jungfrou region to spend one day (all we can afford) snowboarding at Grienwald. Then up to Lucerne for a day or two. We'll spend our last days in Zurich where we will fly out on the 17th just in time to be back for school starting somewhere around the 20th. Woot! God willing it will be an awesome trip!

Sun 23, 09:15 PM    my room
Soon I fell asleep, overcome with fatigue and delight. In dreams of unspeakable joy--of restored friendships; of revived embraces; of love which said it had never died; of faces that had vanished long ago, yet said with smiling lips that they knew nothing of the grave; of pardons implored, and granted with such bursting floods of love, that I was almost glad I had sinned--thus I passed through this wonderous twilight. I awoke with the feeling that I had been kissed and loved to my heart's content; and found that my boat was floating motionless by the grassy shore of a little island.

Fri 24, 01:00 PM    Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and everywhere in between
After a week of going back and forth between the decision of whether to walk or take a bus to Bethlehem I decided at the last minute to walk. We (Chris, Nari, Hannah, and I) set out from the Idelson Dorms on Mount Scopus at 1:00 pm. After buying some Jerusalem Bagels from the arabs by the Damascus Gate, we met up with some other friends (Tamar, Alice, and Jordan) at the Jaffa Gate. They were a bit late so we didn't end up leaving there until just after 2:00. gotta go, will finish later
 Thursday, Dec 23
Thu 23, 10:30 PM    Jaffa Gate of the Old City
After eating at the Korean House restraunt with a bunch of friends and trying to see a Korean movie which turned out to be sold out, Nari and I walked by Jaffa Gate and found a Christmas tree left from the free handout that morning. We ended up carrying it, by a bit of a roundabout route back to the dorms. Now our flat smells like Christmas. mmm...
 Sunday, Dec 19
Sun 19, 07:00 AM    eastern shore of the Dead Sea
Left at 7:00 AM for a 2nd Temple Period History class field trip with our wonderful Professor Rivka Duker-Fishman. She’s awesome :) We started down at Herod the Great's mountain fortress of Masada (the last stand of the great Jewish revolt against Rome) and worked our way up stopping at Ein Gedi to see an ancient synagogue and then at Qumran to see where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and the archaeological finds of the community of the Dead Sea Sect (Essenes). Fun trip… learned a Korean game with stones… i like games… woot!
 Saturday, Dec 18
Sat 18, 12:00 PM    Bethlehem
Aaron and I caught a arab taxi/bus to Beit Jala after a failed attempt to visit the Temple Mount at 8:00 and four hours of wandering the old city. From there we took a 1 shekel bus down to the Bethlehem city center. We walked around down there stopping at all the churches etc. We saw the Church of the Nativity, the milk grotto (where Mary dropped some milk while breast fedding Jesus and turned all the stones white), and St. Catherine's amoung other things. We even explored a crypt by candle light. kinda creepy.

Mon 6, 12:00 AM    Seattle, WA
Happy birthday brother... you are one awesome dude. woot
 Saturday, Dec 4
Sat 4, 06:45 PM    Teddy Stadium, south Jerusalem
went to the Jerusalem Haifa game. Sad game... no one scored, but worth it to see the Israeli crowd. Climbing over fences... trying to break down gates... lighting gigantic flares in the bleachers. There were always cheers going on, we never sat down the entire game. The Haifa crowd had their own section with guards all along it and spikes atop a fence. Just a little different from a Seattle sounders game.
 Sunday, Nov 14
Sun 14, 08:00 AM    near Jericho
we took advantage of our rented car that wasn't due back until 4 that afternoon and drove and hiked out to the Monestery before school started. 50/50 chance of our car getting trashed... we got the good 50... phew awesome time pictures up later

Tabor (the Mount of Transfiguration)... exploring Nimrod's Fortress... visiting the rivers and waterfalls of Tel Dan and Banyas... swimming in the Med Sea at Akko. all in all a great trip. pictures soon
